Clontarf Rugby Club will welcome political representatives from Ireland and Scotland to Castle Avenue this Friday for the David Hill Memorial Quaich, an afternoon of rugby that celebrates friendship, community and remembrance.

The fixture will see the Scottish Parliamentary Rugby Football Club take on a Dáil and Seanad Éireann XVs RFC selection in a special match that brings together parliamentarians through their shared love of the game.

Spectators are welcome from 1:00pm, with kick-off scheduled for 2:00pm.

The match will be played over four 15-minute periods, promising an entertaining contest between the two sides as they compete for the David Hill Memorial Quaich.

Adding to the afternoon’s rugby, there will also be a half-time fixture featuring Clontarf Bulls players taking on a Wasps selection, showcasing the inclusive and community-focused side of the game that sits at the heart of rugby clubs. The teams will include players from neighbouring clubs, reinforcing the strong sense of camaraderie and connection that the event represents.

At the centre of the day is the memory of David Hill, a former member of the Scottish Parliamentary team. David’s family will be present at Clontarf for the occasion as the rugby community comes together to honour his memory through the sport he loved.

Following the match, the David Hill Memorial Quaich will be presented during a short post-match gathering that will include poetry readings, brief speeches and food for those attending.

The event will also raise awareness for two charities supported in David’s honour:

  • Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) – a UK charity dedicated to preventing sudden cardiac death in young people through screening, research and awareness.

  • It’s Okay Not To Be Okay – a north Dublin charity founded by Theresa Kelly, which supports mental health and wellbeing within the community.

Club President Austin Foxe said:

“We are honoured to host the David Hill Memorial Quaich at Castle Avenue. Events like this highlight the power of rugby to bring people together across communities and countries, while also remembering those who have had a lasting impact on the game and supporting causes that make a real difference.”

Members, supporters and friends of the club are warmly encouraged to attend what promises to be a memorable afternoon of rugby, reflection and community spirit at Castle Avenue.
