Congratulations to the Clontarf J2 team- the Super 3rds who lifted the J2 Metro league trophy last Saturday. It was the first time in 37 years that a Clontarf 3rds team had won the league title. Under the management of Blayney Russle and Aidan Donnelly and coaches Warren O’Kelly and Ian Devery the “Super 3rds” as they have become known as beat a spirited St Mary’s side 19-8 on the back pitch.  Watched by a huge crowd including one Norman McCully, former President and the last captain of the 3rds to lift the league title.

The 3rds played into a gentle wind in the first half. The game was always going to be close but with the visitors needing 4 tries, a bonus point win as well as overhauling a 14 point points difference the Tarf side were not going to shy away to easy. In the end it was to big a mountain to climb for the visitors as Tarf claimed the title missing from the cabinet for too long.
