Ireland are guaranteed their best ever finish whatever happens against France in the fifth place play-off, but England and Australia will record their lowest rankings in JWC history. On Sunday Ireland produced a fantastic performance to beat England 27-12 in the fifth place semi-final. Clontarf players Des Merry and Tadhg Furlong started the game at 1 and 3 respectively. Both players were substituted late in the second half which is a tribute to their quality.

Clontarf fullback Mikey Sherlock did not make the matchday squad but played against Italy and South Africa. The fifth place play-off takes place on June 22nd against France.
