A MEMBER
Clontarf Rugby Club welcomes players at all levels, and currently field five senior men’s teams, a women’s team, as well as an Under 20’s side.
The Club also develops young players both boys and girls, with teams from under 6 to under 12 years (mini rugby) and under 13 to under 18 years (youth rugby). All mini and youth training and games take place on Sunday mornings from September through to April.
All playing members (Mini, Youth & Adult) along with those applying for Family Memberships are required to register and/or renew on the IRFU system by using the link below.

Clontarf Rugby retains insurance cover for players under the IRFU Player Insurance Scheme.
This scheme covers Club players for catastrophic injury only e.g. loss of limb, permanent disablement etc. The policy does not cover loss of earnings, medical expenses, accident and emergency visits or dental repair.
It is therefore critical that all players or parents/guardians of players investigate their insurance options. The Club recommends that players are covered by medical insurance from a recognised private medical insurer.
Rugby is a contact sport and regrettably injuries can occur. Clontarf F.C. is committed to providing a positive Rugby environment for all its members. This does not however extend to financial support for medical bills.
The compulsory IRFU Player Insurance Scheme costs the Club approximately €2,300 per senior team per annum. That is €115.00 per player in a match day squad of 20 players.
The playing subscription for Mini/Youth players is €150 per annum.
Unpaid playing subscriptions are not just a meaningless financial shortfall but are a significant annual expense.
Additional Top Up cover is available through the IRFU’s broker.

CLUB HOUSE & 4G PITCH
The Club enjoys a state of the art, 4G all weather pitch located behind our clubhouse. Not only do our senior and junior teams use it as a training ground, but the mini rugby programme is hosted here on Sunday mornings.
This pitch is one of the first in Ireland, so is used by schools and sports clubs throughout the year.
In order to keep the 4G pitch in top condition, we ask all members to adhere to the pitch rules to avoid damaging the synthetic grass:
- All footwear must be clean
- No steel studs
- No blades
- No food
- Only players, team coaches and managers are allowed on the pitch. Spectators must remain outside
- No liquids except uisce/water

Our Clubhouse has two bars; the main bar is the perfect place to watch any major sporting event, with numerous HD TVs to provide an immersive experience.
We also have a second bar located upstairs in our Clubhouse and can host functions of up to 100 people, with access to our balcony overlooking our pitches. The balcony also has outdoor seating, and is the ideal venue for a summer evening BBQ.

Clontarf Rugby Club is the ideal venue if you are planning a birthday celebration or family gathering and your membership entitles you to discounted rates on venue hire.
Our club bars and function hall are all available to hire for Parties, Christenings, Social Events, Meetings, Corporate & Team Building Days.
Our club personnel have hosted numerous events from charity balls to surprise birthday parties, and can help plan your event from catering, decoration to musical entertainment.

MESSAGE
As President of Clontarf FC, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to our members, players, supporters, visiting teams, and match officials to Castle Avenue in the upcoming 2026/27 season.
I am truly humbled to have been elected President of our great Club. To be asked to serve as President in any year is such a fantastic honour, but to be invited to do so in this, our 150th year, is something I would never have dared to dream of. It carries an even more heightened sense of privilege when one considers the rich historical and social heritage of our Club, whose first early Presidents were born in pre-Famine Ireland.
As we enter the year of our sesquicentennial celebrations, I would also like to congratulate Clontarf Cricket Club, a club with whom we hold the record for being the longest established “mixed sporting marriage” in the country.
Both clubs were founded in 1876 and, since 1896, some 130 years ago, we have shared the same grounds. For the first 50 years of the arrangement, we even played on the exact same patch of grass (now the rugby pitches), fencing off the cricket wicket during the winter rugby season.

To all of our volunteers, our dedicated staff, our committees and sub-committees, your collective effort and cooperation of the past seasons has been a huge contributory factor to our successes. Long may it continue.
For our 150th Anniversary celebrations, we have a full programme of events planned, which will be detailed in the coming weeks.
Finally, but equally importantly, to all members and supporters, I look forward to meeting you over the coming season and wish you the best of enjoyment in a year which we hope will be inclusive and exciting for all in our community.

IRFU PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE
It gives me great pleasure to write to you for the first time in my capacity as the 137th President of the Irish Rugby Football Union , particularly as Clontarf FC celebrates it’s special 150th season .
It is a tremendous honour to serve as President and I am deeply conscious of the responsibility that comes with this position .
It is our schools and clubs that provide the players that feed the pathways for the professional game. I look forward to representing all those who contribute so much to our sport across the island at school, club and provincial level .Clubs are the bedrock of our game and I look forward to visiting many clubs across the island in my role as President and meeting volunteers who play such a crucial role in keeping our game vibrant. I intend to meet , along with our CEO Kevin Potts, with clubs in each province during the season to give them an opportunity to engage with the Union .
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all volunteers who give so generously of their time. Whether serving on committees, coaching teams, supporting match days, maintaining facilities, fundraising or undertaking the countless tasks that often go unseen, your contribution is invaluable. Irish Rugby continues to benefit from a volunteer culture that is admired and hugely valued. From minis and youth rugby through to adult and representative levels, the commitment of Clubs remains the driving force behind everything we achieve.
Our senior men’s team have a very important season ahead as they prepare for the World Cup in Australia. Our senior women’s team also have an important season as they participate in the WXV Global Series and endeavor for selection in the first ever women’s British and Irish Lions squad .

The game of rugby prides itself on its values. All stakeholders . including players and supporters, have a responsibility to ensure that the values of our game – respect, inclusivity, integrity, fun and excellence are upheld . These values help create positive experiences for players, supporters, coaches, match officials and volunteers, and ensure that rugby remains a game of which we can all be proud.
The continued growth of our game depends on creating welcoming and inclusive environments for all. It is encouraging to see increasing participation across many areas of rugby, particularly within the women’s and girls’ game, while our Clubs continue to embrace new members, players, coaches, referees and volunteers. We must continue to ensure that rugby remains a sport that is accessible, enjoyable and rewarding for everyone who wishes to be involved.
