Match report by Peter Walsh

On a day dominated by a gale blowing down the pitch from the Clubhouse end, UCD claimed a smash and grab victory in Castle Avenue on Saturday with a last minute try from Paddy Patterson. A

Playing with the wind in the first-half, the home side could only manage to score 10 points, through a penalty and converted try from full-back Sean Kearns.

The visitors rush defence coupled with a tooth grinding lack of precision from Clontarf led to repeated breakdowns in attack.

Despite marked dominance in the scrum, Tarf failed to pin down their resilient opponents and were harried and harassed all over the park.

Early in the second half, a defensive error let College in for a seven pointer through Andy Marks, converted by James Tarrant and despite another Kearns penalty, Clontarf could not secure enough clean possession to build a reasonable lead.

With time almost up, and the home side leading by a whisper UCD, pilfered a home maul and maintained their composure long enough for Paddy Patterson to complete a famous and long overdue victory for College over Clontarf.

Attention now turns to Garryowen, who we face this Saturday in Dooradoyle, before we welcome Lansdowne to Castle Avenue on the 29th of November for Friday Night Lights – please contact office@clontarfrugby.com if you would like a place at the pre-match dinner on the 29th.
