Sunday May 19th  – END OF SEASON!

it’s hard to believe the season is finished.  Our U8 players will be the new U9 players next season, continuing with the skills we’ve learned over the last 8 months and adding new ones including lineouts & scrums – but more of that later.

This Sunday May 19th we’ll meet on pitch 2 in St Annes for 10.30 for the season wrap.  We’ll have some fun games for the kids and we might dream up some for the parents too!  There will be medals for all registered players presented by one of the Clontarf first team players who is delighted to be meeting the players of the future – followed by some snacks & drinks for the kids.

Pitch 2 is located on All Saints Road – coming from Killester direction on Howth Rd turn right after Texaco Garage – pitch 2 is circa 200 meters along road.

The forecast is good but in the event of a deterioration check the webiste before travelling.

We will need additional coaches next season so whether you’ve played or not or have previous coaching experience we’d love to hear from you.  Please let any of the coaches know if you’d like to get involved.  Don’t stand on the sidelines next season!

Thanks to everyone for all their support & help across the season.

See you Sunday.

Note:  Both pitches at Castle Avenue are closed and have been treated with chemicals.  Please ensure that children in your care are not allowed to play on the pitches when at the club.

Homework (For players & parents) – The more you practice the better you get!

  • Carry the ball in two hands at all times.
  • Pass behind you.
  • Never run backwards. Always run forward!
  • Practice scoring a try by bringing the ball to your chest in one hand and support yourself with the other hand as you go to ground. You can also force the ball to ground firmly with 2 hands, if you do not feel like throwing yourself to the ground.
  • Practice your catching.
  • Practice your passing, but remember don’t spin the ball.
  • Practice having fun!

Training takes place from 10.00 – 11.15 every Sunday morning on the main pitch at Castle Avenue. Please make every effort to arrive on time – it avoids disruption for everybody!

(In times of heavy rain, snow and frost this may change, please check in on this web page before going to training every Sunday morning just to be sure)

NB – All players MUST be registered with the club for insurance purposes – Un-registered players may not be allowed participate as they are not covered by the club.

All players MUST have a gumshield – No gumshield no play!

Parents please read the the parental requests below and check this webpage every Sunday at 9am for notifications and relevant updates.

The new season is well underway now and all the players are developing their skills and knowledge of the game. You can help by reminding them of the basics & practicing these skills during the week.

  • Keep both hands on the ball
  • Always run forward
  • Pass back
  • Tackling below the waist only!

For Parents & Guardians

To help training run smoothly each week we have some small jobs for all parents / guardians to take note of;

1. Gum shields – no shield – no play (Dentistry is expensive!)

2. Bring Water – Having this much fun is thirsty work!

3. Hats, tracksuit bottoms and gloves in cold weather please for all players.

4. DO NOT LEAVE ANY CHILDREN UNATTENDED AT TRAINING, AT ANY TIME.

5. Get involved. Positive encouragement for all the children is vital, most players want to impress their parents, so please try to impress the children. Never be negative.

NOTE: If any parent / guardian has an issue or observation regarding their child please bring notice immediately to a coach.

At this age group we have one objective at training and it is pretty simple: To have FUN!

Interested in Coaching? We need more help for the 2012/2013 season

Clontarf Mini Rugby is looking for more coaches for this season – Many hands make light work – If you are bored standing on the side line or if you feel that you can make a positive contribution to our training sessions please volunteer to get involved. It is a great way to spend time with your child on the field of play. We can do with all the help we can get and don’t worry it only looks like hard work! Specialist training is provided to all newcomers so don’t worry about a lack of knowledge about the game, it is never too late to learn something new!

Coaching is done on a volunteer basis and the people that run all these sessions at all levels of mini and youth rugby at the club do so as a way to contribute to the community of Clontarf and surrounding areas. All coaches are parents of players, players currently or ex-players and we all want the club to thrive into the future.

If you or someone you know would like to get involved in coaching please contact Joe on 087 668 4265 -  Many hands make light work!

Thanks,

Joe.
