The Bull Walk
On Saturday 12 May the club will be staging its biggest ever event with The Bull Walk, which will involve club members and friends of all ages enjoying a family day and building for the future of Clontarf Rugby at the same time. If your son or daughter is involved in cricket as well then this will have even more relevance to you.
In short – and there will be a 5k route as well as a 10k one – the walk is about getting out and doing something for a club that has served us all so well through the generations. We have been lucky over the years to have a facility on our doorstep that is convenient and welcoming and has become a place for our kids to grow up, as well as play sport. This is where they make lifelong friends, and in time they will come back to provide for the next generation.
Keeping the club on track to look after the huge numbers of kids on our books takes massive effort from an army of volunteers. Our success in this has been a great source of pride to all involved, and we need to work constantly at being as good as we can be. The Bull Walk will not only provide a unique opportunity for everyone to get involved in fund-raising for the redevelopment of the club, but it will be a terrific social event as well.
If you are as keen to put something back into the club as we are to move it forward, then please collect your sponsorship card from the bar or download from the following link.

At this age group we have one objective at training and it is pretty simple: To have FUN!
For Parents & Guardians
To help training run easily each week we have some small jobs for all parents / guardians to take note of;
1. Gum shields – no shield – no play (Dentistry is expensive!)
2. Bring Water – Having this much fun is thirsty work!
3. Hats, tracksuit bottoms and gloves in cold weather please for all players.
4. DO NOT LEAVE ANY CHILDREN UNATTENDED AT TRAINING, AT ANY TIME.
5. Get involved. Positive encouragement for all the children is vital, most players want to impress their parents, so please try to impress the children. Never be negative.
NOTE: If any parent / guardian has an issue or observation regarding their child please bring notice immediately to a coach.
Homework (For players & parents) – The more you practice the better you get!
- Carry the ball in two hands at all times.
- Pass behind you.
- Stay on your feet.
- Never run backwards. Always run forward!
- Practice scoring a try by bringing the ball to your chest in one hand and support yourself with the other hand as you go to ground. You can also force the ball to ground firmly with 2 hands, if you do not feel like throwing yourself to the ground.
- Practice your catching.
- Practice your passing, but remember don’t spin the ball.
- Practice having fun!
Coaches & Coaching
Coaching is done on a volunteer basis and the people that run all these sessions at all levels of mini and youth rugby at the club do so as a way to contribute to the community of Clontarf and the surrounding area. All coaches are parents of players, players currently or ex-players and we all want the club to thrive into the future.
Without the following coaches, the U7s age group would not be as successful as it is, so thank you: Andrew, Trevor, John H, Richard, Joe, Jan, Garret, Liam, Aidan, Phil, Ger, Tim, Fiachra and Fergus. Also a thank you to those coaches that have contributed to the U7s in seasons past, you know who you are.
If anyone would like to get involved in coaching please contact Damien at 086 389 4995 - Many hands make light work!
Thanks,
Damien.
