Update 20 May
Many thanks to all who made yesterday such an enjoyable event – the weather topped it off but the work from lots of people to make it run so well is much appreciated. Special thanks to Dec for organising the posters and CDs. Will those from the A squad who didn’t collect their CD yesterday please contact Bren 087 2518449?
NB: Also, Lorraine, Jamie’s mam, has kindly volunteered to run Core Strength sessions for us during the summer. Numbers are strictly limited so it will be on a first come first served basis. The sessions will be daytime, in Artane, and will start after the school term ends. Getting a handle on core strength is vital for the physical development of our players so it’s great to get this opportunity. There will be a nominal charge to cover studio rental – details to follow later.
We’ll be in touch with some of you to organise bits and pieces over the summer – lads who are not engaged in other sports need to be doing something to say active. In the meantime well done to all for a hugely enjoyable season!
Update 15 May
Details for end of season barbecue: 4pm in club this Sunday 19 May. Parents please ‘bake or buy’ – as usual Emer would be glad to hear from you on 086 106 0070. Looking forward to a good sign off to a great season! Would all those involved in the Cup final win over Skerries a couple of weeks ago bring €10 to cover costs of photography that night – each player will be given a CD on Sunday with action and team shots from that game, and many thanks to Dec for organising it.
Update 12 May
The party bus is due back in the club 6.45-7pm with a crew of weary travellers. Well done to the lads who played good rugby in winning both games yesterday, and special thanks to Kevin and the other coaches for organising the trip. Barbecue next weekend – more detail to follow.

You will need: the balance on your deposit ie €40 per head, payable to Kevin. Bring rugby gear (inc gum shields) plus two changes of clothes as well as swimming togs. Spending money would be useful as there will be inevitable stops along the way.
Update 7 May
Apols for late update – the real world got in the way there for a while! Well done to the A squad last night for another quality performance. We’ve managed to play good rugby all the way through and the rewards are in the enjoyment the lads have got from it, as well as a full trophy cabinet. Fatigue was an issue – on and off the pitch – and the lads did very well to keep going to the end. Special thanks to the following: Kyner, whose ingenuity turned a car park into a playable pitch; Alex for managing to delay his return to Cork to be there on cup final day; and Emer’s Army for producing such a lovely array of scoff – which disappeared in record time. All that remains is the spin north this w/e, final details on balance due and departure times etc as soon as poss. Then the barbecue on Sunday week and we’re all done. We’ll have a few lads involved in hurling Feile that day but it if you’re around, drop in anyway. Well done to all on a terrific season!
Ps we had a sports photographer there last night, so same drill as last season: we’ll knock out CDs at cost (thanks to Desktop Systems for their generosity) to all the families, details on exact price later.
Update 6 May
Well done to all who took part in Feile yesterday, especially Na Fianna crew who were runners up in very competitive contest. A squad should be in Castle Avenue 5.10 for 6pm kick off v Skerries tonight. Please double check boots and gum shields before leaving home! And bring your own water.
Squad: J Crumlish, D Collum, B Holland, D Adamson, J Gannon, D Sanfey, G Murray, F O’Dea (capt), L Fanning, E Doody; J Walsh, D Bolger, A Peat, V Badurashvili, J O’Donoghue, C Kyne, E Thompson, R Whelan, R Byron, D Ryan, J Murphy, A Fleming
Update 2 May
Some things are worth waiting for, and the Bs’ league final victory over Old Wesley in Donnybrook tonight fits into that category. This squad has soldiered long and hard and fully deserved their reward in what was a highly entertaining game against a very good side – a good enough contest for Ireland Women’s capt Fiona Coghlan to mention on Twitter! It’s a great trait to be able to deliver when it really matters, and the entire squad did just that. All the lads will be mentioned at medal ceremony – details of which to follow soon – but for the moment great credit goes to Tom for his outstanding leadership throughout the campaign, and Coaner for an awesome man of the match performance tonight. Well done to all concerned!
Update 1st May 2013
Well done to the A squad in Barnhall last night – very good rugby in a pressured environment. If parents could pass on any good photos of the event to Declan (declan@desktop.ie) we can put them on site. There will be no training between now and the SYC final v Skerries in Castle Ave on Mon 6 May. NB The kick off for that game has been brought forward to 6pm. We need parents to give a dig out please on food front for post match festivities that night so please contact Emer 086 1060070.

Update 22 April
The run-in to the competitive end of the season is almost clarified. The A Group will play Terenure in club Thurs night 7.30pm in Metro Cup semi-final. The SYC final scheduled for that slot has been moved back (and the post-match refreshments as well) most likely to Bank Holiday Monday, also in club with a 7.30pm kick off. The winners of Thurs night’s game will play Barnhall midweek next week in the Metro final, night and venue TBC. So for the As there is the possibility of three games between now and Bank Holiday Monday. With lads dragged in a few different directions this is a big challenge for all concerned.
The B Squad will play Skerries away on Sunday 28th, time TBC. The winner will play Old Wesley on main pitch in Donnybrook on Wednesday night 1 May, time TBC. The Bs need to go flat out to take the good form they showed against a very strong Ashbourne side into Sunday’s game with Skerries.

Update 17 April
Well done to the mixed squad tonight in wild conditions up the mountains. Special mention to Emmet Kenny scoring on his first touch in a 15 a side game, and Liam Fanning breaking his duck after a longish wait.
Training tomorrow night will be for limited group only and names will be posted in morning. In the meantime everybody should read the following, from former Wallaby coach Eddie Jones, who now coaches Japan. Read it twice!
“People assume that all top rugby players must have a very high skill level, but they are wrong. There are only two centres in Japan who can pass it accurately, but that lack of precision is true the world over. Too many centres have come up through the age groups where size has been everything. Just because they can smash their way over the gain line, coaches don’t seem to require them to work on their passing. That neglect of young players has repercussions. It stifles a lot of attacks when they graduate to senior level. Rugby needs to change. We have to get that big 100kg schoolboy centre to practise 50 passes a day. Passing is not a chore, it should be a skill to be nurtured. Repetition, repetition, repetition. I don’t care how good your players think they are, they almost certainly are not good enough. Fruit and veg and 50 passes a day. It’s good for them. And they will be much better players at the end of it. They might even be able to run in an overlap without smashing a defender to pieces.”
Update 16 April
Squad v DLSP tomorrow night, Wednesday, away. Be there for 7.20. Ko is 8pm. Squad: D Collum, B Holland, D Adamson, G Murray, B Arnold, E Kenny, J Gannon, F O’Dea, L Fanning, G O’Kelly; A Peat, C Guinan, C Monks, C Kyne, E Thompson, J Crumlish, J Murphy, A Fleming, R Coan, R Whelan, E Dillon

Update 14 September
Well done to both A and B squads tonight in two very good games v CUS. Special mention to Ben Holland, playing his first game for the club, and veteran Ruadhan Byron, both of whom were outstanding in the B win. The A game was a great contest played at a very high standard for what was the first game of the season for both sides. CUS edged home deserved winners in the end and we look forward to meeting up again for more rugby of a similar standard. Commiserations to Cody Barton who will be out for a couple of months after damaging ligaments.
The As will take a rest on Sunday morning but Titch is keen to kick on with a session for the Bs – St Paul’s 11.30am. Any players outside the squads are welcome to attend for skills work. Well done to all on a good night, and special thanks to the parents who organised the post-match food.

Update 8 September
Training tomorrow Sun 9 Sept as usual in St Paul’s 11.30am
Update 6 September
The following will make up an A/B squad from which we’ll select players for matches this season. If you are not in this group it may be because you haven’t turned up over the last three weeks, or responded to repeated requests to declare an interest one way or the other. Alternatively it may be because we have a stack of players in your position and we have to limit squad sizes.
If we have the bodies to sustain a development squad again this season we’ll do so, but Leinster only cater for two teams at club level so games will be very hard to come by. We’ll be guided re a third group by player interest, which so far has been minimal. If you are not in the group below you should not register until the last Sunday this month, if at all, by which stage we’ll know if we have enough bodies to plough on.
Backs: Jack Crumlish, Rob O’Sullivan, Ben Holland, Ben Arnold, Dec Adamson, Grellan Murray, Harry O’Byrne, Dave Sanfey, Conor Moore, Frankie O’Dea, Eoghan Doody, Liam Fanning, Kev Morgan, Mathieu Bellintani, Mark Quinn, Matt Duggan, Darragh Glynn, Billy O’Brien, Brian Dufficy, Jamie Kidd, Dave Ryan, Mark O’Sullivan, Dave O’Mahony, Gus O’Kelly.
Forwards: Jack Walsh, Vakho Badurashvili, Adam Peat, Darragh Bolger, Donal Ryan, Eoghan Thompson, Johnny Bell, Adam Fleming, Rory Coan, Joe Murphy, Ciaran Kyne, Josh O’Donoghue, Tom Finnegan, Saran Byrne, Rian Lee, Mike Lynch, Ross Whelan, Pearse McKeon, Iain Nolan, Quincy Murray, Gavin Phelan, Jacob Maguire, Ruadhan Byron, Dan Breen, Brian Keane, Conor Monks, Andrew Hyland
Update 5 September
Training tomorrow Thurs 6 Sept as usual in club 6pm. It’s very likely that we’ll have only two squads this season, and those names will be posted after training tomorrow night.
Update 1 Sept
Training tomorrow Sun is 11.30am in St Paul’s – that will be our Sunday slot this season along with Thurs at 6pm in club.
Can the following wear Clontarf jerseys tomorrow please (everybody else in other gear): Mark Quinn, Ben Holland, Brian Dufficy, Harry O’Byrne, Conor Moore, Frankie O’Dea, Dave O’Mahony, Gus O’Kelly, Saran Byrne, Tom Finnegan, Darragh Bolger, Iain Nolan, Eoghan Thompson, Adam Fleming, Ciaran Kyne, Rory Coan, Gavin Phelan.
Please note, we’ll make a decision prior to Thurs sessions on the number of squads we might field this season -based on the responses we’ve had from parents to repeated requests to let us know if their kids are in or out.
Update 29 August
Training tomorrow Thurs 30 August in club 6-7pm. Can the following players please wear Tarf jerseys (everyone else in other gear):
Because of poor response to text re those who are coming back to play and those who aren’t, we are still unsure about the number of squads we’ll have this season.

Sun: 9 Sept: Training, venue tbc

Update 16 August
Training restarts on Sunday 19 August in St Paul’s 11am. Our midweek night for the new season won’t be fixed until next week so we’ll advise then. If you were signed up last season and won’t be coming back we’d appreciate notice to that effect as the sooner we get a handle on numbers the sooner we’ll know what we’re dealing with – and already there are new players eager to join. Hopefully you’ve all had a good summer and are ready to go again. We set a high standard last season and the aim is to repeat that. Welcome back!
