THREE TARF PLAYERS NAMED IN IRELAND SENIOR SQUAD

The Ireland squad for the 2008 RBS Six Nations championship sees a mixture of youth and experience in an extended 33-man panel, named on Tuesday by Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan. 

The uncapped Leinster duo of Cian Healy (Clontarf) and Jonathan Sexton (St Mary’s) have been named in their first Ireland senior squad having both progressed from Ireland Schools to the Under-20s to senior provincial representation. 

The Irish squad also includes our two previously capped Clontarf men Bernard Jackman and Jamie Heaslip. 

For Clontarf, the inclusion of these three players this is an enormous honour and was greeted with delight in Clontarf.

Commenting on the selection, Clontarf President, Greg Howard said “We are absolutely delighted with the inclusion of these three players in the squad. While we were quietly hopeful that Bernard and Jamie would make the selection, given their great performances for Leinster this season, we are all thrilled that Cian has, at only 20 years of age, been recognised after only recently making the break-through into the Leinster senior panel” 

Greg went on to say “This is a huge vote of confidence and indeed endorsement for the Clontarf system from where underage rugby has flourished in recent years and has gone on to feed into the under 20 set-up right through to our adult teams”.
