Tarf fall at Buccs Author: Peter Walsh 2005-12-09 Buccaneers 16 Clontarf 10 Clontarf's topsy turvy season continued in Erricson Park on Saturday as a predictable and limited Buccs side made the most of their chances and defended gamely for the win. Clontarf will be disappointed with the loss but to be fair, while they had some chances to win the game, they were way off any standard of consistency.Outside of the flashes of brilliance from key players which led to their two tries they spent most of the game unable to master the basics while in and out of possession. Starting an away game by conceding a soft try under the posts never really helps either, particularily when playing a side who relish the idea of defending a lead. After that score Buccs never looked like creating anything with the ball but it was clear they didn't care. They were there to defend and spoil and feed off the opposition mistakes. Clontarf had enough possession to do damage but were guilty of shovelling the ball across the line like a soggy sack which invariably led to a breakdown out wide which was fed on with relish by the speedy Buccs backrow. In these frustrating circumstances penalties are conceded and Buccs Tom Cregan had the composure required to keep his team in front for the game. Next up for Clontarf will be Cork Con at Castle Ave. Con are riding high at the top of Division 1 at the moment and will be expected to perform, Clontarf have the wherewithall to upset the Whites. It just depends what Clontarf team decides to turn up. | ||||
