Semi Final Update 04/05/2006 SATURDAY, 6th MAY 3.00PM KICK-OFF
The dream lives on!
Well the lads (aided by the 16th man) did it in style for us!
We asked them for a home semi-final and they delivered!
How did we get here?
Before looking forward to next Saturday here are a few interesting statistics to consider
courtesy of Pat McHale (our answer to Des Daly!)
Ø We played 15 games; won 12 and lost 3.
Ø We achieved 61 league points, 13 of which were bonus points – a new league record
Ø Over the 15 games we used 38 different players.
Ø Out of our 15 AIL games, Niall O’Brien & Rob (Chops) Sweeney started in all
Ø Niall Carson, Jacob Ellison and Derek Keane started 14 of the 15
Ø Our top try scorer is Derek Keane with 13 tries – this year’s top try scorer in the AIB league
Ø Darragh O’Shea is the team’s leading points scorer with 98 points (3 tries, 12 penalties, 22 conversions and 1 drop goal)
The saying “there is no ‘I’ in team” undoubtedly applies to this entire squad and these great individual performances wouldn’t have happened without that team commitment. The sheer determination and focus that has become so much part of this team, kept the dream going, despite a few potential derailments along the way.
If there were no play-offs to look forward to, no one in the club could complain that we hadn’t got great value, entertainment and excitement this year. But there are - and these guys aren’t for stopping.
16th Man needed again!
Next Saturday we need a thunderous welcome for our lads when they set foot on the pitch. Yet again, the team needs your support and your colour. We will be giving away free flags to the first three hundred children through the gate. We need the terraces to be a sea of red and blue.
The “Year of the Bull” T-Shirt sold out in two hours last Saturday, but more supplies will be in before the weekend. These will be available in the Club shop on Friday night from 7.00 to 8.30pm or before the match on Saturday.
Food & Entertainment
We will have a marquee erected for the weekend and we intend to make full use of it. There could be a few last minute pre-match lunch spots available –contact Mary Walsh before 3.00pm on Thursday.
After the match we will have the Two Daves playing in the marquee, from 5.00pm to 8.30pm, followed by Jagged Edge, a three-piece band, playing pop & rock from the 70’s 80’s and 90’s.
Barbequed steak rolls will be available on the deck prior to and after the game.
