Leinster League Cup Clontarf V Barnhall 1st October 2004 Author: NULL 2004-10-05 Leddin Senior League Cup 1st October 2004 Clontarf 32 Barnhall 15 Clontarf entertained Barnhall under lights on Friday night and for most of the first half must have been praying for a power cut such was the enthusiasm that Barnhall showed it setting about the home side. Perhaps they could consider changing their name to Barnstorm because having defended the first 10 minutes against a physically superior Clontarf pack they set about mugging the ‘Tarf backline for two opportunist tries. Clontarf have been showing a degree of rustiness when the ball is moved wide and were caught out for pace and aggression on a number of occasions. They were not helped when they lost out half David McAllister to a Hamstring strain while attempting to convert their first half try. This was his first game back after a run with Leinster and his early departure will not help Clontarf’s AIL preparations. However, his replacement ,Shane Moore brought much of his big match experience to bear in the second half and tightened the Clontarf patterns allowing the big home pack to dictate proceedings. This brought dividends, and led ably by their massive second row of Kearney and Duffy the Clontarf 8 started bashing around the fringes and rolling off lineouts for huge yardage. The tries followed; four in all to go with their one in the first half and they ran out easy winners in the end. Their will be unease in the Clontarf club as their play was a little disjointed at times. What price perfection! | ||||
