FOUR FROM FOUR AND TARF GO TOP! 27/10/2008 Young Munster 0 Clontarf 7 A game for the purist and committed. The wind howled, the rain lashed down, the locals roared, the visitors roared back, and Clontarf prevailed in the muck and the mush to record a stunning victory to go top of the AIB League for the first time this year. the game was decided 5 minutes from half time when the Young munster full back touched a long kick ahead and allowed the ball go dead for a 5 metre scrum to 'Tarf. Garvey picked and two phases later man of the match Dundon burrowed over close to the posts. That was to be the only score of the game but it took a massive defensive effort along with some magnificent control of the ball for Clontarf to finally prevail. The second half was played in monsoon conditions with players slipping and sliding around like seals all over the park. Some of the Clontarf defence was outstanding with backs and forwards combining to tackle and ruck as the circumstance required. Early in the second half we were very unluckly not to cap a magnificent controlled drive from our own 22 to the home line but a knock on denied us. Young Munster never managed to get a foothold in the 'Tarf 22 at any stage of the game and were held to one penalty attempt in the first half. | ||||
