Clontarf 8 Blackrock 13
In weather conditions more condusive to bog snorkelling Clontarf failed to overcome extraordinary defense from Blackrock and went down by 5 points in Castle ave on Saturday.
In probably the worst conditions seen at Castle avenue in years ‘Rock turned into the weather at half time leading by 13 points to 5 after no 8 Shane Madigan touched down after a maul under the Clontarf posts right on the whistle. The visitors were leading 6 points to 5 after two penalties by Kilroy were pegged back by a superb try by Clontarf’s no 10 Hewitt after fancy footwork by his brother Mark and wing Donovan Rossi. The converted try at half time proved to be crucial as Clontarf failed to turn almost total possession and territorial advantage into second half points. A Darragh O’Shea penalty in off the post was all the home side could muster as wave after wave of assault on the’Rock line were repulsed by a combination of defensive guts and an inability to control possession in the storm conditions.
