At a recent meeting between representatives of the IRFU and of the All
Ireland Senior Rugby Clubs Association (łAISRCA˛) at the AIL Working Party
Committee, the format for the All Ireland Leagues in 2005/2006
was discussed.
Arising from those discussions, AISRCA decided to canvas the position of
each Senior Club on whether they would prefer ;
A) A straight league with 3 Divisions of 16 teams, each team in a Division
playing all other teams in the Division, or
B) The previously agreed format of two conferences in each Division with
the 8 teams in a conference playing each other on a home and away basis.
An overwhelming majority of the Senior Clubs have voted to request the IRFU
to change back to (A) the straight league without conferences with immediate
effect and AISRCA hope that this will be agreed to by the IRFU at their next
meeting so that plans for the 2005/2006 season can proceed.
Existing regulations for promotion and relegation at the end of the current
season will not be affected by this proposed change.
