A BONUS IN BELFAST! 11/12/2006 Belfast Harlequins 16 Clontarf 27 Clontarf’s season continued to develop momentum on Saturday in Belfast as they registered their first away victory against a Belfast Harlequins side suffering from the kind of self doubt that overcomes you when you are stuck to the bottom of the division. Tarf are a bit like an old truck …..banging along spewing diesel fumes ….loads of miles on the clock…nothing fancy in the cab but old cigarette butts., empty cans and a faded holy picture ….but they get the job done. Talking of old trucks… Declan Quinn ambled the body out on to the ground and played his best game in years, bashing the opposition around and stealing ball left right and centre. He was aided by his protégé in theft, Alan Trenier, who waded through the home mauls on a couple of occasions to steal the ball. For the record ‘Tarf scored four tries: two from a mauls, one from drives off the side of a maul, and one after a great break from Nethery was recycled for O’Shea. That gave us a bonus point and moved us menacingly into fourth spot in the league three points behind the leaders. This is a really good result and a great position to be in at this point in the season. We know that our game has fired in fits and starts and that the best is yet to come. Next week our Southside rivals Blackrock travel Northside for the last game before Christmas. ‘Rock are having a good season and recent results suggest that some of the old swagger is back. They have lots of pedigree in their side, plenty of pace and power. ….. Just like a Porsche in fact!......... Bring on the ol’ truck! | ||||
